Addiction Recovery Housing for Women

Provided by Chrysalis Society

Long-term addiction recovery homes for marginalized self-identified women (19+) in Vancouver.
Chrysalis Society homes are located in quiet residential neighbourhoods of Vancouver and are strategically designed to provide trauma-informed environments that promote a culture of safety, empowerment and healing. Each home has a garden space and areas for meditation, and fitness. We strive to make New Dawn, New Day and New Way truly ‘home-like’ and welcoming.

Chrysalis has a long-standing reputation for supporting highly marginalized women with complex mental health needs, including those on medications that limit access to other inpatient programs. Its three-stage approach helps women complete treatment, reunite with their children, and rebuild strong family and community relationships.

Stage 1 : New Dawn: A government-licensed, first-stage stabilization program for women in early recovery. Women require 72 hours of abstinence for entry into New Dawn. Once there, women are supported through their post acute withdrawal while transitioning into a stable routine that includes daily group sessions with a facilitator, weekly on-site addictions specialist physician & concurrent disorders nurse, individualized care plan, life skills training, music therapy, yoga and reiki.

Stage 2 - New Day & New Way: Residential support recovery programs for graduates of New Dawn and/or other licensed 1st-stage programs and/or treatment centres. For entry into New Day or New Way, women require 90 days of abstinence.
  • New Day is an Indigenous-led program for self-identified Indigenous women seeking 2nd stage support on their recovery journey. Encompassing a holistic philosophy, the program works from the perspective of ‘two-eyed seeing’; this means combining an Indigenous and Western approach to wellness. This program centers on traditional teachings, practices, and ceremonies from an Indigenous perspective. From a Western approach, they offer counselling, educational workshops, and clinical knowledge regarding mental health and the effects of drugs and alcohol, primarily within the protection of the Sacred Circle.

  • New Way is designed for women who are preparing to transition to independent, sustainable housing. Residents receive ongoing individual support while participating in weekly group sessions with a clinical support worker. The program also offers life skills training, employment support, and volunteer opportunities.

Stage 3 - Independent Housing: There are 5 subsidized market housing spots, each for 2 years. Women must be a current resident of New Day or New Way. Women have the option to extend their stay with Chrysalis for a duration of up to five years, encompassing the full continuum of care.
