RMCS provides services to immigrant and refugee communities in Richmond. RMCS plays an important role in the settlement, education, and integration of immigrants from the day they arrive in Richmond.
RMCS provides information, referral, and programs for women and youths, seniors services, settlement services, diversity training, and English as a second language class. Services are available to permanent residents, immigrants waiting for permanent residency, refugees, temporary foreign workers, and immigrants who are naturalized citizens

Settlement Services: Settlement services help new immigrants and refugees live in Canada by connecting newcomers to services, jobs, housing, and everything else needed to feel welcome in their new home. RMCS Settlement Services also provides access to government and community services. Proof of identification is required to access services. Settlement services are available to all newcomers regardless of which language they speak. Interpretation and translation are offered to newcomers and community agencies.

  • Assistance with Permanent Residence applications and renewals

  • Applications for EI, Visas, and Passports
  • Income tax questions
English Conversation Classes: Offers conversational English classes for permanent residents, immigrants, and refugees. The days and times vary for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. There is a $35 fee for this program. Unfortunately, no childcare is available for any of the classes.

  • Teaching with lots of pictures
  • English you would use in your daily life
  • Talking and reading about general topics to increase your words
Inclusive Communities Programs: The Inclusive Communities Program (ICP) operates to help create a welcoming community for all. We focus on diversity and inclusion. We provide workshops to address racism, multiculturalism, and diversity issues and have a team that is dedicated to assisting organizations and businesses create an inclusive city for newcomers to Canada.

Employment and Job Services: RMCS provides information to newcomers on resume preparation, work culture in Canada, interview skills, and job search techniques. Eligibility: Refugees, Landed Immigrants, Naturalized citizens, Live-in Caregivers Refugee Claimants and Provincial Nominees who need assistance with settlement issues in their first language or in English.

Youth Services: RMCS offers youth leadership program for youths aged 13-19 looking to gain leadership training. This program supports youth in learning new skills, increases confidence and connects with other immigrant youth through field trips and workshops.

Seniors Program: RMCS offers seniors programs in three languages. They include Mandarin, Farsi, and/or Chai at Chaupal (Punjabi/ Hindi) seniors groups. These programs have Seniors gather to share their ideas, discuss interests, and volunteer. We have informative workshops, yoga, singing, dancing, field trips, potluck lunches and much more. It is a fun, interactive, and informative way to socialize in the community. It provides seniors with information relating to health, personal safety, self-esteem, basic English language/communication, awareness about the services available in the community and maybe even a field trip or two! We often invite working professionals to share their knowledge and expertise with the participants on lots of different topics.

Multicultural Women Support Group: The multicultural women support group meets once a month and is focused on helping newcomer women:
  • Gain self-confidence
  • Learn more about Canadian society
  • Become more involved in the community
  • Discuss common concerns
  • Make new friends
  • Explore and celebrate their different cultures
  • Improve their English
Annual Income Tax Clinic: RMCS runs an annual tax clinic at the beginning of each year. highly-trained volunteers sit with you and understand your needs to help file income taxes if you make under $35,000 a year. This is a free clinic.

Eligibility for Services:
  • Low-income families: Individual-$35,000, Couple-$45,000, Additional Dependent: $2500, Investment Income Less than $1000, No Rental Income, No Self-Employed
